Pumpkin Harvest FAQ's and Rules

The Smith Family Farm Pumpkin Harvest is one of the Bay Area's top-rated and most recommended pumpkin patches because of its unique atmosphere and affordable price. Our setup is different from that of other pumpkin patches in the area, therefore it is important to know what our admission includes and what our guidelines are before visiting.

What does admission include?

The $15 admission price includes all activities (live music, barnyard animal area, herb garden, game area, pumpkin galleries, photo ops, observation beehive, and special events) as well as one pumpkin of any size from our patch. The only additional charges you may encounter at the Pumpkin Harvest are for food and drink, souvenirs from our country store, and arts & crafts items on weekends.

When doing research on visiting the Smith Family Farm Pumpkin Harvest, please be sure that you are looking into the correct farm (there are several Smith Family Farms in the U.S.) and be mindful that articles and blog posts on our farm from previous years may be outdated.

When are you open?

The Smith Family Farm Pumpkin Harvest opens on September 23rd and is open daily from 9am-5pm through Halloween. Our fruit stand remains open through Thanksgiving with a selection of pumpkins, seasonal fruits and squash. The farm is also open to the public on select weekends during the Spring season with similar activities.

Entry to the farm closes at 4:30pm, and we suggest arriving no later than 4pm. On weekdays, the last music show begins at 3:30pm. We do not offer discounted rates or multi-day passes for late arrivals.

Our farm closes promptly at 5pm every day, and we ask visitors to pick their pumpkin and begin heading to the exit by 4:55pm.

What forms of payment are accepted?

The Smith Family Farm Pumpkin Harvest only accepts cash or check payments. We may be able to accommodate payments through payment apps, but we cannot guarantee that such transactions will be successful.

Are pets allowed?

Unfortunately, we can only allow service animals with proper documentation into the farm. Emotional support animals (with documentation) may be allowed into the farm at our staff's discretion, however, they are not covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act, and we reserve the right to refuse entry or expel guests with poorly behaved or otherwise disruptive emotional support animals.

Who pays admission?

Babies under 2 years of age are free. All visitors ages 2 and up pay a general admission of $15. We do not offer discounted rates for late arrivals or guests who do not want to take home a pumpkin.

Can I buy extra pumpkins?

The Pumpkin Harvest includes one pumpkin from the patch per paid admission. Each guest over the age of 2 receives a ticket upon entry which they must hand in at the exit in order to take out their pumpkin. This system is meant to ease the movement of guests in and out of the farm.

To buy extra pumpkins, we strongly recommend doing so at our roadside fruit stand, where we have all of our varieties in stock, as well as mini pumpkins, gourds, corn stalks and other Fall decor. The stand closes an hour after the Pumpkin Harvest (6pm), so visitors will have time to shop for extra pumpkins after the farm is closed.

Are there hayrides?

We had to discontinue our hayrides during the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and we are not able to bring them back due to a variety of factors. At this time, we don't have the capacity to provide hayrides to all of our visitors, and the idea of having hayrides for only some customers at an additional cost goes against our values.

Hayrides are featured as part of our Spring season, where will will be open with similar activities and smaller crowds. See our website and social media for updates on Spring events.

Is there a petting zoo?

Our barnyard animal area is not technically a petting zoo, however our animals (especially Daisy the cow and Bella the donkey) are very people friendly. On weekends, we have a corn cracking station where children can help feed our chickens. Weekends also often feature staff-supervised encounters with baby chickens, geese and turkeys.

Other animals include our goats, as well as visiting baby animals from neighboring farms, such as piglets and sheep. Our chicken coop has a pair of male peacocks who go through their annual molting process during the Fall season. To see them in their full splendor, visit us during the Spring season.

Is there food?

Unfortunately, we do not have our own facilities on the farm for preparing hot food. On weekends, we have fresh corndogs from Dean's Dogs as well as 1-2 food trucks (frequents guests include Ofie's Kitchen and El Gran Taco Loco). Our snack shack is also open on weekends and features $1 bags of fresh popcorn and ice cold drinks.

Our country store in the center of the farm is open daily and has chips, candy, nuts, fall fruits and beverages for sale. There is currently no hot coffee for sale on the farm, and guests are encouraged to bring their own.

Outside food and drink is allowed. Personal barbecues and grills are strictly prohibited.

We would like to feature more fall/pumpkin themed food options on weekends, as well as coffee and pastries, but so far have not found a suitable partner. If you own a food truck or pastry/coffee cart that offers Fall menu items and are interested in being a vendor, please leave us a message at (925)625-5966 or reach out to us through social media.

Can I bring my own cart/wagon?

Since we no longer offer hayrides for the Pumpkin Harvest, wagons for carrying children, pumpkins, picnic accessories, etc. are highly encouraged.

Can I bring a drone?

Drones and other RC devices are not allowed.

When is the best time to visit?

Weekends are the best time to come, as they feature extra activities (face painting, extra musical guests, animal encounters, beekeeper visits, etc), food trucks, arts & crafts vendors, along with special events such as Tomato Day and Antique Tractor Weekend. If you wish to come when it is less crowded, weekdays between 12pm and 4pm are typically very quiet. On weekdays, there are only two afternoon music shows, at 1:30 and 3:30. There is no hot food on weekdays, but outside food is allowed.
